Peles, Bran and Brasov in one day is not too much on a guided tour, but it is a long day: about 12 hours door to door from Bucharest, six of them on the road, with roughly an hour at each castle and an hour or two in Brasov. It is too much by public transport, and on a Monday or Tuesday Peles is shut anyway. In November 2026 Peles is closed for the whole month.

The order matters more than people think. Peles opens at 09:15 (10:00 on Wednesdays) and Bran at 09:00, so tours do Peles first on the way north, then Bran and Brasov in the afternoon, in either order. On a Monday Bran does not open until noon, which is one more reason the morning stop is Peles or Cantacuzino.
How long do you need at Peles Castle?
About an hour for the ground floor tour, which is what most day trips allow. Peles’s ticket covers the ground floor and first floor (100 lei for an adult, peles.ro, October 2026). Entry is by timed slot, the last entry is at 16:00, and guided tours in English form at the entrance through the day at no extra charge. Allow time for the walk up through the grounds, and longer if you also want Pelisor, the smaller castle next door (30 lei).
The Peles closures that change the day
- Closed every Monday and Tuesday. Peles and Pelisor open Wednesday to Sunday only.
- Closed from 2 November to 1 December 2026 for general cleaning and conservation (peles.ro). Pelisor is closed from 28 September to 3 November 2026.
On those days a Bran and Peles tour sees Peles from the outside and the royal gardens, and gives more time to Bran and Brasov; in November several listings offer Pelisor instead, which reopens on 4 November. Tours that include Cantacuzino Castle in Busteni lose least. That is a fair day out, and Bran and Brasov are unaffected, but if Peles’s interior is the reason you are going, travel Wednesday to Sunday and not in November 2026.
Bran or Peles: if you only had time for one
Peles for the interior, Bran for the story. Peles is a 19th-century royal palace, finished for King Carol I in 1883, with carved wood, stained glass and armoury halls; it is the more impressive building inside. Bran is a 14th-century fortress on a rock that Queen Marie made into a home, and it carries the Dracula legend; it is the more famous outline. Visitors who see Peles first often find Bran small. Is it better from Brasov?
Yes, if you can spend a night there. From Brasov the castles are 30 to 50 km away instead of 130 to 200, the day starts later, and you see Brasov in the evening rather than in a rushed afternoon. Days from Brasov with hotel pick-up take in the same three castles.

Tips for the long day
- Sit on the left going north for the views of the Bucegi cliffs above Busteni.
- Bring lei in cash for the castle tickets if your tour does not include them, in case the guide collects the entrance money.
- Eat in Brasov, not at the castle gates.
- Avoid Sunday if you can. The DN1 back to Bucharest is at its worst on Sunday afternoons.
