The Guide
Why Go from Brasov, and Which Day to Pick
Shorter drives, a later start, and two kinds of day: castles, or castle and bears.
Going to Bran Castle from Brasov is the easy version of the Dracula’s Castle day: Bran is about 28 km away by road, Peles about 50 km, and the day starts and ends in Brasov’s old town instead of three hours away in Bucharest. If you are spending a night in Transylvania, this is the better way to see the castles.

Two kinds of day from Brasov
The castles day takes in Bran, Peles and Cantacuzino, often with Sinaia’s monastery or town. It is the same set of castles as the Bucharest day trips, minus about four hours of driving. The tour at the top of this page is the most reviewed of these: Bran, Peles, Cantacuzino and the Sinaia Monastery with hotel pick-up and an English-speaking driver-guide, from $60 in current promotion (usually $67), rated 4.9 from 495 reviews (checked October 2026). Entrance tickets are extra.
The castle-and-bears day pairs Bran with Rasnov’s hilltop citadel and the bear sanctuary near Zarnesti, a refuge for brown bears rescued from captivity. It suits families and anyone who has already seen Peles. One of the most reviewed is Bran Castle, Bear Sanctuary and Rasnov Citadel, from $54 in current promotion (usually $60), rated 4.9 from 399 reviews (checked October 2026): about two hours at Bran, an hour with the bears and an hour at Rasnov, with entrance tickets of 6 to 18 euros a site on top. Note that Rasnov Citadel’s interior is under rehabilitation and only its garden is open (cetatea-rasnov.ro, October 2026).
Bran from Brasov on your own
You do not need a tour for Bran alone. Buses leave from Brasov’s Autogara 2 bus station through the day and take about 45 minutes to an hour, and a taxi is quicker. A tour earns its price when you want two or three castles in one day, because Bran, Peles and Cantacuzino are on different roads and the buses between them run through Brasov.
What to check before you book
- The day of the week. Peles is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, and Bran opens at noon on Mondays (peles.ro and bran-castle.com, October 2026).
- November 2026. Peles is closed from 2 November to 1 December 2026; castle days keep running with Cantacuzino and Sinaia.
- Tickets. Castle entrances are usually paid on the day: 100 lei at Bran, 100 lei at Peles, 65 to 85 lei at Cantacuzino. Read the listing’s not-included line.
Where to stay in Brasov
Stay in or at the edge of the old town, near the Council Square, so the pick-up is a short walk. The where-to-stay guide compares Brasov with Bran village.
The evening you arrive, a free walking tour of the old town is the quickest way into Brasov’s Saxon history, the same Saxons who built Bran Castle. Booking is free and guides work for tips: free walking tours in Brasov.

Three Castles, a Short Drive from Brasov
Skyline Elite Tours' castle day starts and ends at your Brasov hotel, with small-group transport and three castles on the way. Rated 4.9 by more than 450 guests on GetYourGuide (checked October 2026). Starting from $60 per person in current promotion (usually $67).

Bran Castle from Brasov: FAQ
What people ask before a castle day from Brasov, answered first and explained after.
About 28 km by road through Rasnov, roughly 35 minutes to an hour depending on traffic. We measured 27.8 km along the road from Brasov's Council Square to the castle. Peles Castle in Sinaia is about 48 km the other way, over the Predeal pass.
Yes. Buses to Bran leave from Brasov's Autogara 2 bus station through the day and take about 45 minutes to an hour. Timetable listings disagree on frequency and fare, so check at the station. A bus is fine for Bran alone; for Bran and Peles in one day a tour or a car is far easier, because the buses between them run through Brasov.
Yes, if you can spend a night in Brasov. The castles are 30 to 50 km from Brasov against 130 to 200 km from Bucharest, so a Brasov day starts later, spends far less time on the DN1 through the Prahova Valley, and ends in Brasov's old town. From Bucharest it is a 12-hour day with about six hours on the road.
Peles is open Wednesday to Sunday only, and it is closed from 2 November to 1 December 2026 for conservation (peles.ro, October 2026). On closed days the castle days from Brasov show you its outside and add more time elsewhere; Cantacuzino Castle in Busteni is unaffected. Bran Castle is open every day, from 12:00 on Mondays.
Usually not; check the not-included line of the listing. At the gate, Bran Castle costs 100 lei for an adult, Peles 100 lei and Cantacuzino 65 to 85 lei (official sites, October 2026).
The Libearty bear sanctuary near Zarnesti, about 30 km from Brasov, a refuge for brown bears rescued from captivity. Some days from Brasov pair it with Bran Castle and Rasnov's citadel instead of Peles; they suit families and visitors who have seen Peles already. Rasnov Citadel's interior is under rehabilitation and only its garden is open (cetatea-rasnov.ro, October 2026).
